Bangladesh is building a Drone Manufacturing hub with China Partnership

In a major strategic move, Bangladesh has taken a decisive step toward establishing its own drone manufacturing capability through a government-level defence agreement with China. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the country’s defence and technology landscape, positioning Bangladesh to produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) domestically for the first time.

In a landmark move, Bangladesh has signed a major defence collaboration with China to build its first state-of-the-art drone manufacturing and assembly facility on home soil. The agreement—officially inked between the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation International (CETC) under a government-to-government (G2G) framework—marks a pivotal expansion in Dhaka’s defence industrial capacity.

The drone factory project is expected to be a long-term development, with construction, training, and technology integration phases that will unfold over the coming years. As Bangladesh builds its indigenous capability, the facility could become a cornerstone of the country’s defense industry—one capable of producing sophisticated unmanned systems for both domestic use and potentially foreign customers.
